Mr. Duane J. Miskulin, National Commander of The AMVETS of the United States, Mrs. Patty A. Piening, National President of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary of the United States and their party visited the Veterans Affairs Commission (VAC) for six days from October 29th to November 4th 2009.
The visitors paid a visit to VAC and called on Minister Tseng. Minister Tseng appreciated AMVETS’s support for ROC in the past 20 years and presented the Medal of Honor with cravat of VAC to National Commander Miskulin and National President Piening, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to upholding international justice, safeguarding freedom & peace, promoting veterans welfare, and strengthening mutual relations and cooperation between AMVETS and VAC.
The AMVETS leaders called on President Ma Ying-Jeou, at President’s Office on November 3. President Ma remarked that the ROC and American veterans have long maintained close interaction. President Ma had met with former AMVETS National Commander John Hapner and former AMVETS National Ladies Auxiliary National President Charlene Kee last year. President Ma appreciated that when AMVETS holds its annual national convention, the ROC national anthem is played and flag is displayed on side.
 The visitors expressed their appreciation to President Ma for taking time out of his busy schedule to meet with them. They added that AMVETS will continue to support ROC as they have always done.
The visitors also called on Defense Minister Kao, the immediate past VAC minister. They appreciated the contributions that Kao made to strengthening the cooperation between ROC and US, and they thanked Kao for initiating this invitation for them to make the trip.
 AMVETS National Commander Miskulin and their party also visited Taipei Veterans Home, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and the offshore island of Kinmen. They were impressed that VAC’s services at the VAC homes, hospitals and regional offices are so comprehensive and humane.
