The commander paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister Lin Wen-shan of the Veterans Affairs Commission on Nov. 30. Deputy Minister Lin appreciated the DPA’s support for ROC in the past decades and presented the VAC medal of honor with cravat to Commander Malott. The meeting was followed by a banquet during which both parties exchange view points regarding upgrading the veterans’ welfare. As Commander Malott pointed out that the United States could learn a lot from ROC’s experiences, Deputy Minister Lin brought up that the ROC government plans to adopt the all voluntary military service system; Lin mentioned that ROC may learn from the United States as well.
Mr. Malott also visited Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei Veterans Home and Nanzih Veterans Domiciliary Center. He was impressed with the comprehensive and considerate medical, home, and nursing care for veterans offered by VAC.
The guest also took time to visit late president Chiang Kei-shek Memorial Hall, National Palace Museum, Taipei 101 Financial Building, Yingge Pottery and Keelung, Kaohsiung City where he had visited during 1973 when serving for American Navy.
