  American Legion National Commander and party visited the Republic of China

The American Legion National Commander Clarence Hill and Mrs. Hill, Auxiliary National President Rita Navarreté and Mr. Navarreté, as well as Mr. And Mrs. White, aide to the National Commander, visited the Veterans Affairs Commission from November 21 through 24, 2009.


On Nov. 23, the guests met with Minister of VAC Tseng Jing-ling. Commander Hill and Auxiliary President Navarreté were presented VAC medals of honor with cravat. After a briefing, Mr. Hill was very impressed with the facilities and benefits provided to the veterans in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

 

At the banquet hosted by Minister and Mrs. Tseng later on, the party from the AL and the officials of VAC had a chance to fully exchange views regarding care for the veterans.

Accompanied by VAC Minister Tseng, the group paid a courtesy call on Vice President Vincent Siew. The Vice President mentioned that the American Legion and the Veterans Affairs Commission have maintained close relationship for years. As the Republic of China plans to adopt the system of all voluntary military service system, the ROC would like to draw experiences from the United States so as to better motivate the veterans thereafter.

The delegation also called on Mr. Kao Hua-chu, Minister of National Defense, visited the POW Memorial Park in Taipei County, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, National Palace Museum, Martyr’s Shrine, and Bade Veterans Domiciliary Center.
