VAC's 2010 Chinese New Year Party for International Veterans in Taiwan

The Veterans Affairs Commission held its annual Chinese New Year Party for foreign veterans in Taiwan on February 24. Altogether there were more than 50 veterans from Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, the United States and the Republic of China joining in the party, hosted by Minister and Mrs. Tseng.

In his beginning remarks, Minister Tseng appreciated various veterans organizations in the United States that passed resolutions supporting the Republic of China and the assistance foreign countries extended to the victims devastated by Typhoon Morakot. On behalf of all the guests, Dr. L.J. Lamb, the past commander of Post 49 of the American Legion, said that he and his wife have taken part in the Chinese New Year Party over 30 times, and they are looking forward to more gatherings in the future to strengthen the friendship. He emphasized that veterans need to be honored after they have given the best part of their life defending the country and the people. Unfortunately, many countries tend to forget what their veterans have sacrificed.

The party went on in a cozy air. The atmosphere was further warmed up as guests from each country showed their fortes. The representatives from the United States sang in chorus “It’s so easy!” demonstrating their easy-going characteristics. Chairperson of the Veterans Association of the Republic of China, General Ding Zhih-fa, and Supervisor Wang Zong-yen sang “Green Mountain” and “Butterfly Valley” respectively. The two seniors won a big hand from the audience.
