AL National Commander Dale Barnett, ALA National President Sharon Conatser and their party visit VAC
1 Mr. Dale Barnett, National Commander of the American Legion, Mrs. Sharon Conatser, National President of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and their party visited the Veterans Affairs Council (VAC) from November 26th to 30th, 2015.
On  November 27th , the visitors were given a briefing on the operations of the VAC, which include education assistance, employment assistance, medical care, home care, and services for R.O.C. veterans and their families. Minister Tung expressed his gratitude for The American Legion"s continuing support of Taiwan through its Resolutions at the National Convention each year. Commander Barnett and President Conatser received medals from the VAC in honor of their dedication to veterans" welfare and the promotion of relations between The American Legion and R.O.C. veterans.
On the Morning of November 30th, Minister Tung, accompanied the visitors to call on President Ma, Ying-jeou, at President’s Office. President Ma extended a cordial welcome to the distinguished guests and appreciated the American Legion’s efforts on promoting US-ROC relationships on many important occasions, passing resolutions in support of ROC during its annual conventions for many years and supporting arm sales to ROC (Taiwan), according to the “Taiwan Relations Act”. President Ma and visitors also exchanged views on veterans affairs and discussed cross-strait relations. In the end, National Commander Barnett thanked President Ma’s reception and expressed their admiration to VAC for taking good care of veterans. For mutual benefits, National Commander Barnett also pledged to help promote Sino-American bilateral friendships, and the world peace.
During their stay in Taiwan, the party also made a trip to Taipei Veterans General Hospital. They were very impressed by the state-of-the-art equipments and the establishment of the first Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology to provide comprehensive medical care tailored to older people. Moreover, the party also took time to visit the National Palace Museum , the Shilin CKS Presidential Residence and Taipei 101 Financial Building. Commander Barnett and his party expressed that they were impressed by the R.O.C. history and the modernization of Taiwan.
