Mr. Shawn C. Watson, Commander of Department of Pacific Area to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, visited R.O.C. (Taiwan) and participated the ROC National Day Celebration, from 7th to 12th October, 2013. The distinguished guest received warm welcome from Minister Tung Hsiang-Lung, Veterans Affairs Council (VAC), when he paid a visit to VAC on October 7th. To commend Department of Pacific Area to Veterans of Foreign Wars’ dedication to facilitate and support the veterans services experiences exchange between the ROC and the US, Minister Tung presented a Medal of Honor with cravat of VAC to Commander Watson.
The period when Commander Watson visited Taiwan, the 21st Standing Committee Meeting of the WVF for Asia and the Pacific also took place, to which 90 delegates from 16 countries attended. Commander Watson therefore was arranged to join the meeting and interacted with other delegates.
During his visit, he made a trip to Taipei Veterans General Hospital, VAC Training Center and Taoyuan Veterans Home. He also took time to visit the National Palace Museum, the C.K.S. Memorial Hall, Yingge Ceramics Museum and Taipei 101 Financial Building, in addition to the Kinkaseki P.O.W. Memorial of WWII in New Taipei City. Watson expressed before leaving Taiwan that he was impressed by the R.O.C. history and the modernization of Taiwan.
