AMVETS (American Veterans of the United States) National Commander Regis William Riley and National President Barbara Ann Valley of the National Ladies Auxiliary have just completed their annual visit to Taiwan at the invitation of the Minister of the R.O.C. Veterans Affairs Council (VAC) Chiu Kuo-Cheng.
The AMVETS leaders visited VAC, and they also visited several VAC’s subsidiaries such as Taipei Veterans General Hospital and Hualien Veterans Home.
In the visit of Taiwan, they took part in VAC’s Veterans Festival Convention. Minister Chiu noted that AMVETS has been a strong supporter of Taiwan for decades, and each year, leaders from the VAC and AMVETS exchange information on veterans' affairs, national defense and foreign relations.
National Commander Regis and National President Valley both delivered address in the Convention. Minister Chiu thanked the visitors for the latest AMVETS National Resolution on Taiwan, in which AMVETS recognized that the Republic of China is a long-time friend, ally, and a strategic partner of the United States, and AMVETS calls upon Congress and the Administration to support the admission of the Republic of China on Taiwan into the United Nations and to afford the President of Taiwan the same respect and privileges as other visiting Heads of State.
